Congratulations you are pregnant!
Pregnancy is a very special time when looking after yourself and your growing baby is paramount.

Pregnancy and the Clinic

At the clinic we provide comprehensive pregnancy and postnatal support.

This allows us to target all the common complaints that can arise at different stages throughout pregnancy, both physically and emotionally, as well as maintaining good health and general well-being throughout. We have many years’ experience in supporting pregnant women and offering advice on how to stay well.

Acupuncture is a wonderful way to maintain optimal health during pregnancy, since it is completely natural and safe for both mother and baby throughout all stages of pregnancy. This can offer invaluable support at a time when conventional medications are often not suitable to be taken.

Early pregnancy can be a time filled with anxiety, particularly for those whose fertility journey has been long or complicated and for those who have experienced previous miscarriage. At the clinic we offer huge amounts of support and someone to talk things through with. We provide relaxing Acupuncture sessions suitable for all stages of pregnancy.

Acupuncture and Pregnancy

Research *suggests that Acupuncture may help to improve the blood flow to the uterus and help to boost energy levels too.

It is also good for relieving stress, which is vital for you and for your baby. Sessions address common pregnancy ailments such as nausea, fatigue, migraine or backache amongst other issues.

Supported by a recent study, Acupuncture can effectively relieve morning sickness, as well as improve more severe conditions such as hyperemesis gravidarum - severe vomiting during pregnancy, with results from the first session. 1*

Later in pregnancy Acupuncture can focus on backache, pubic and joint pain, sciatica and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Specific sessions are available for helping to turn breech babies involving applying heat to an acupuncture point at one of the toes. This is a 1-off session in the clinic with a moxa heat stick given for further sessions at home. A good time for this is 33-36 weeks whilst there is still room for the baby to turn. 1*

There's plenty it can do in the last few weeks of pregnancy too, in helping to prepare you for the birth. We encourage women to come to us on a weekly basis from 36 weeks onwards. Acupuncture can help to induce labour and research shows that these sessions also help to reduce the first stage of labour. 2*

A further survey conducted in New Zealand revealed that women who had Acupuncture in the last 4 weeks of their pregnancy had a third less the number of medical inductions, epidurals and emergency caesareans compare to local population rates. 3*
