Pregnancy Acupuncture

Congratulations you are pregnant!
Pregnancy is a very special time when looking after yourself and your growing baby is paramount.
Pregnancy and the Clinic
At the clinic we provide comprehensive pregnancy and postnatal support.
This allows us to target all the common complaints that can arise at different stages throughout pregnancy, both physically and emotionally, as well as maintaining good health and general well-being throughout. We have many years’ experience in supporting pregnant women and offering advice on how to stay well.
Acupuncture is a wonderful way to maintain optimal health during pregnancy, since it is completely natural and safe for both mother and baby throughout all stages of pregnancy. This can offer invaluable support at a time when conventional medications are often not suitable to be taken.
Early pregnancy can be a time filled with anxiety, particularly for those whose fertility journey has been long or complicated and for those who have experienced previous miscarriage. At the clinic we offer huge amounts of support and someone to talk things through with. We provide relaxing Acupuncture sessions suitable for all stages of pregnancy.
This is my second pregnancy and I have had acupuncture for morning sickness since the beginning since having suffered first time around. The effects have been outstanding, with my symptoms of persistent nausea controlled significantly with weekly treatment.

The acupuncture and care I received throughout my pregnancy helped with worry, sickness and really helped to relieve severe hip pain in my last trimester. I was waking every hour at one point in agony and after one treatment in my hip I was able to sleep through the night. I love every aspect of the acupuncture including the way Caroline goes above and beyond just the treatment with her expert advice and reassurance. Thank you so much!

I was very anxious knowing that my baby was in the breech position at 35 weeks. I wanted to do everything I could to avoid a caesarean. I myself am a midwife so knew what my hospital could offer, which was an ECV after 36 weeks. I knew from research I had come across in my profession that moxibustion had a similar success rate to ECV but carried less risks to myself and my baby. So I googled local places to have the treatment and came across Calverley and Rawdon Acupuncture clinic. Caroline was fantastic on the phone gave me lots of information when booking my appointment. When I arrived the clinic room was wonderfully calm and peaceful so I immediately felt relaxed. Caroline went through a thorough consultation and explained the treatment in detail. The treatment itself was very relaxing and my baby seemed to enjoy it wriggling away like crazy. She gave me an information leaflet on how to continue the treatment myself at home and much to my amazement the baby turned to head down 3 days later. I was over the moon, and am now 39+4 weeks waiting patiently for my baby to arrive naturally. Caroline also informed me of an acupuncture treatment that aims to induce labour, which if I go overdue, I plan to book and have every confidence it will help me meet my baby that little bit sooner.

I came to see you for moxibustion last Wednesday (to turn my breech baby). My midwife sent me for a presentation scan this morning and baby has turned head down!
I definitely felt increased movements following the treatment but I wasn’t sure if it had turned. I don’t know how it works but thank you very much. My midwife is sure to recommend you to future pregnant ladies with breech babies.

I’d like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support throughout our ivf cycle and the acupuncture sessions you gave up until the birth. I would not hesitate in recommending you to others and look forward to coming back to you soon.

I just wanted to let you know that I thought baby had turned earlier in week and I’ve just had it confirmed by the midwife! Very pleased! I’m singing yours and acupuncture’s praises!

I’ve been having a series of labour preparation treatments with her culminating in my final one which was at 6pm on my due date .We welcomed our healthy & beautiful little girl yesterday evening and I’m convinced it was the same day combination of a sweep followed by acupuncture that got labour going the very next morning. Eternally grateful and Rachael is a consummate professional.

It is also good for relieving stress, which is vital for you and for your baby. Sessions address common pregnancy ailments such as nausea, fatigue, migraine or backache amongst other issues.
Supported by a recent study, Acupuncture can effectively relieve morning sickness, as well as improve more severe conditions such as hyperemesis gravidarum - severe vomiting during pregnancy, with results from the first session. 1*
Early pregnancy can be a very worrying time with lots of anxiety, particularly if there is a history of miscarriage or if the fertility journey has been long. Acupuncture is effective for anxiety during pregnancy. Pregnant women who feel anxious can benefit from Acupuncture because it promotes a deep sense of calm and relaxation.
Later in pregnancy Acupuncture can focus on backache, pubic and joint pain, sciatica and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Specific sessions are available for helping to turn breech babies involving applying heat to an acupuncture point at one of the toes. This is a 1-off session in the clinic with a moxa heat stick given for further sessions at home. A good time for this is 33-36 weeks whilst there is still room for the baby to turn. 1*
There's plenty it can do in the last few weeks of pregnancy too, in helping to prepare you for the birth. We encourage women to come to us on a weekly basis from 36 weeks onwards. Acupuncture can help to induce labour and research shows that these sessions also help to reduce the first stage of labour. 2*
A further survey conducted in New Zealand revealed that women who had Acupuncture in the last 4 weeks of their pregnancy had a third less the number of medical inductions, epidurals and emergency caesareans compare to local population rates. 3*
